Abstract:

We evaluated amphibian species composition, abundance, and diversity in a dry Miombo woodland in Mocuba District, northern Mozambique. Six sampling points were monitored during the months of April and May 2021, totalling 48 sampling days. Species were collected by combining two complementary methods, active searching and pitfall traps. A total of 150 frogs representing 12 species were recorded. Our methods were of different efficiency in detecting frog diversity, with the rarefaction curves for the two methods not stabilizing. Our data provide an important baseline for amphibian diversity research in an interesting ecosystem and a relatively understudied region of Africa, especially considering the wide-ranging anthropomorphic changes in this and other parts of the continent.
