The research project includes a variety of topics: Merian’s methods of researching butterflies, from the scientific empirism to Merian’s invention of the visualisation of knowledge; the production of knowledge; scientific research of other scientists and artists in the 17th century and their strategies of visualisation of knowledge; the international trade connected to the discovery of the new world; the function of universal collections and cabinets of “naturalia” in Germany, the Netherlands and England.
