The ZFMK also maintains an animal husbandry (fishes, amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates) for research purposes. Captive animals enable us to investigate topics which are hard to study in the wildlife, and thereby contribute to answer taxonomic and evolutionary questions.
The data center provides dataflows, tools and services for ZFMK's research collections that have a focus on the terrestrial fauna with a worldwide coverage.
Morphologie is the science of the form and structure of an organisms. The morpho lab coordinates the morphological research, trains and advices researchers and supervises the related infrastructure.
The Bat Banding Centre at the Research Museum Koenig is a service institution. Since 1960 it has supplied bat bands to researchers in Germany and some adjacent countries, documented the resulting band recoveries, and made the data available to science.
The molecular lab of the ZFMK has its origins in the late 90's and steadily developed into an important resort of research activities within the house.
The LIB Biobank is a specialized archive storing ultra-deep frozen animal samples (e.g. DNA and tissue) for non-commercial molecular research. The biobank is closely linked to the morphological collections of the LIB museums.
