The Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change

is a research museum of the Leibniz Association

Biodiversity research - Unravelling the nature of diversity

Most of the work at the ZFMK is dedicated to biodiversity research, i.e. research into the diversity of species that makes our planet so unique in the universe. It is essential to record the biodiversity of our planet as quickly and comprehensively as possible so that effective protective measures can be taken.

Ausstellung Forschung

But what methods are used to discover new species? How is work done in the molecular genetics laboratory? Why does bioinformatics play a decisive role in the reconstruction of family trees? And how, for example, can biodiversity in complex habitats be recorded automatically? And what is the "German Barcode of Life"?

Ausstellung Forschung

The exhibition answers these questions and shows the fascinating work of the researchers at Museum Koenig. It shows the collections of the museum, explains research methods and presents concrete research projects in which the knowledge gained about biodiversity is applied.
