The FINKA project (Promotion of Insects in Arable Crops, 2020-2025) involves farmers, scientists and advisors in equal measure. The project, which is part of the Federal Programme on Biological Diversity, aims to increase biodiversity on arable land and to initiate a broad discussion in agriculture.
On trial areas, conventional farmers refrain from using pesticides against insects and weeds, while other areas are farmed in the usual way. Ecologically managed farmland also serves as a comparison area.
The Centre for Biodiversity Monitoring of the Koenig Zoological Research Museum is carrying out the faunistic evaluation and investigating the effects of the different forms of management on insect diversity. In parallel, the University of Göttingen is carrying out the floristic evaluation.
