Among the giant dinosaurs, the sauropods or long-necked dinosaurs were the largest animals that ever populated the Earth's continents. With their almost unchanged physique, they dominated their habitat
for many millions of years.

How did the evolution of gigantism among dinosaurs come about?
What were the conditions for the extreme increase in size and how did the organisms of the largest land animals that ever lived on earth function?

The exhibition uses unique original fossils and impressive skeletal mounts to present the current state of research on these questions
and decodes the biology of these long-extinct animals. At the same time, it describes the almost detective-like methods used by scientists to answer questions from a time long past and explains the theory of the origin of gigantism.

Dino Fossil
At eight metres long, the original fossil of Plateosaur XL is the largest dinosaur find from Switzerland and, as an original long-necked dinosaur, is already on the way to becoming gigantic.
Ausstellungsraum mit Dino-Skelett
Diplodocus H.Q.1 comes from the legendary Howe Quarry site, where over 4,000 sauropod bones were excavated in 1934.
Dino Fossilie
The original skeleton of the sauropod baby TONI is the smallest sensation of the exhibition. It is almost completely preserved and fossilised in a living position. The star attraction for children, however, is a living reconstruction of TONI, which shows the baby still "alive".
Ausstellungsraum mit Dino-Skelett
The Allosaurus BIG AL TWO is one of the most complete Allosaurus skeletons ever recovered worldwide. You can recognise the many broken bones that BIG AL TWO suffered during its lifetime.
Ausstellungsraum mit Dino-Skelett
At 27 metres, the skeleton of Apatosaurus ARAPAHOE is the largest original skeleton in Europe and the longest highlight of the exhibition.
