Noble butterfly
We are delighted that Christina König has taken over the sponsorship of the Charaxes protoclea butterfly.
"Flame-Bordered Charaxes" is the English name for the species from the Nymphalidae family with the orange-coloured wing edges. The butterfly inhabits the rainforests of West Africa from Senegal to Nigeria.
The female individuals of this species reach a wingspan of up to 8.5 cm, while the smaller males "make it" to around 7 cm. Our "godchild" can be clearly identified as a female by the broad white centre band that runs across the upper side of the hind and fore wings (dissolving towards the top). The hind wings of the males, on the other hand, are adorned with a very broad, orange-coloured marginal band.
