Floodplain wilderness in eastern Austria
From the Danube Floodplain National Park to the March Floodplain Nature Reserve
Sandra and Wolfgang Walkowiak

In their photo project "Floodplain Wilderness in Eastern Austria", Sandra and Wolfgang Walkowiak present the last large floodplain landscapes in Central Europe, the Danube Floodplains National Park and the March-Thaya Floodplains European Nature Reserve. These unique, largely unspoilt wetlands are a refuge for a large number of endangered and rare species such as the beaver, the European pond turtle, the white-tailed eagle, the kingfisher, the black poplar and orchids.

12:20 pm - Break

14:00
Magical Fen - Shudderingly beautiful
Group lecture Nature photo meeting Eschmar

The High Fens is the largest raised bog in Europe. Around 150 days a year, the fens are shrouded in cloud. The winters are harsh and merciless. In autumn, the landscape glows golden yellow and in summer it is characterised by different shades of green. The moorland of the High Fens is dotted with velvety cushions of moss. When spring comes to an end, the white cotton wool balls of cotton grass give the moor a fairy-like appearance. Gnarled bog birches with their bizarre-looking silhouettes create an eerily beautiful atmosphere.

2.25 pm
My photographic year
Between Kampenwand and Karijini
Stefan Wagner

Come with me on my photographic journey(s) from August 2024 to August 2025. From foggy moods in Chiemgau to the stormy cliffs of Helgoland and the red canyons of Western Australia, the range of motifs is complemented by impressions from the Dahner Felsenland, Mecklenburg and on my doorstep as well as atmospheric images from all seasons.

14:50
The Eifel - natural diversity in western Germany
Group presentation Naturfototreff Eschmar

One of the most frequently visited natural areas of the Naturfototreff Eschmar is the Eifel. In a lecture organised by the entire group, the scenic, floristic and faunistic diversity of this landscape, which is characterised by volcanism and hydropower, is presented.

15:25 - Break

16:00
Moore - Eerie, mysterious, enchanting
Karl Heinz Scheidtmann

Rotting, bizarre tree shapes in the mist - pure dreariness. That's the moor. But when the sun's rays flood the mist, it reveals all its magic. Then the grass glistens, the spiders' works of art begin to glow, clouds of mist flicker on the water - it's intoxicating... And when the mist and sun are missing? Then you can go on a discovery tour and find out what makes this landscape so special. And you learn that not all moors are the same. We will get to know typical representatives of (renaturalised) fens and raised bogs in the Bavarian and Austrian Alpine foothills.

16:30
Pura Natura - Costa Rica
Paul M. Kornacker

Costa Rica, a country that occupies only 0.03% of the world's land area and is therefore slightly larger than Denmark, has 6% of the world's biodiversity and impresses with its extraordinary variety of species. It is a country of extremes, where impressive habitats meet in the smallest of spaces. The lecture - Pura Natura - is a journey through this small Central American country and shows not only the biodiversity of plants and animals but also impressive landscapes.

17:05 - End of the event
