Noble butterfly

The AKG would like to thank Jürgen Nimptsch for his many years of support as patron of the sponsorship campaign by sponsoring the butterfly Kallima rumia.

Kallima rumia is a butterfly from the Nymphalidae family.

The animals have a wingspan of approx. 8 cm. Their wings have a blue to violet and a yellow to red band on the forewing.

Their habitat is the rainforests of Sierra Leone to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania (west).
A special behaviour is that the butterflies camouflage themselves in the foliage by sitting upside down with their wings closed.

The species is endangered due to the destruction of the rainforests.
