Rose chafer
We are delighted that Hannah Fahrenberger has taken on the sponsorship of the rose chafer (Argyrophegges kolbei).
This rose chafer was named after the German entomologist Hermann Julius Kolbe.
The animals reach a length of around 30 to 45 millimetres and are active during the day. While the adult beetles often climb on flowers and feed on nectar and the sap of injured trees, the larvae grow in the nests of the insects, which they use as food.
This subspecies, which belongs to the leaf horn beetle family (Scarabaeidae), is found exclusively in the rainforests of Tanzania.
