Rose chafer
We are delighted that Gabriele Franke has taken over the sponsorship of the rose chafer (Eudicella trilineata).
The species owes its genus name, which translates from Greek as "pronounced two-pronged" ("eu-": pronounced; "di-kella": two-pronged hoe), to the pronounced forked head horn of the males.
When fully grown, the animals reach a size of between 30 and 40 millimetres.
This subspecies of rose chafer, which belongs to the Scarabaeidae family, originally comes from Tanzania and can be found in the rainforests of East Africa, including Malawi.
