Allcolour lorikeet
We are delighted that Gabriele Bock has become the godmother of the all-coloured loris!
The colourful all-coloured loris(Trichoglossus haematodus), a member of the loris family, can often be found here as an ornamental bird. It feeds mainly on nectar and pollen, which it can pick up from flowers with its long, pointed tongue like a sponge. They also eat flowers and buds, leaf tips, fruit, seeds and berries.
The lorikeet is one of the most agile climbers among parrots. However, despite the fact that they fly up to 50 kilometres a day, they are not considered to be particularly agile flyers.
In the wild, lorises can live up to 20 years. During this time, they live together with their permanent mate.
All-coloured lorises can be found in Australia, eastern Indonesia, East Timor, New Guinea and the neighbouring islands. Their population has been labelled as declining by the IUCN since 2005, which is mainly due to the wild-caught trade.
