Noble butterfly
We are delighted that Frank and Renate Lehmann have taken on the sponsorship of the Charaxes brutus butterfly.
Charaxes brutus is a relatively common woodland butterfly that can also be found in relict forests or drier woodland areas.
The basic colour of both sexes is black-brown with a white band across both forewings and hindwings, which fades into spots on the forewings. Males and females can hardly be distinguished from each other.
It feeds on plants of the genera Securinega, Flueggea, Grewia and Lepidotrichilia, for example.
Charaxes brutus is found in Senegal, Guinea-Bissaume Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo and southern Nigeria.
