A lecture by Dipl.-Biol. Eva Scholl
The overlooked ant: the name sums it up. By the time Tapinoma, Pharaoh ant and Lasius neglectus attract attention, their super colonies have long been firmly established. They fit perfectly into the human infrastructure along which they travel, e.g. with transport and supply lines. Since when and how far, there is more speculation than knowledge. A high number of unreported cases can be assumed. There are many different approaches to outsmart them, each of which needs to be combined in a sensible way. The prerequisite is to recognise them clearly. This is less difficult than expected.
Some invasive species that can cause considerable damage in urban wastelands are presented here.
